Tourism
Legendary spots
On the coast lies Nice’s famous Baie des Anges immortalized in song back in the day by local native Dick Rivers with its pebble beaches and the contrasting turquoise and navy blue hues of the Mediterranean.
To the east: Menton and its famous citrus fruits specifically lemons, celebrated at a festival held every year in February or March.
Then there is Monaco and "The Rock"; the Principality’s mere two square kilometers leave no room for a golf course. And at the risk of disappointing some of our readers the Monte Carlo Golf Club is actually... in France!
To the west: Biot, home to glassmakers, artisans, and artists creating their work right before your eyes. Further along lies Antibes with its famous Picasso Museum, and a little further still, Cannes home to the May Film Festival and the Lérins Islands.
Finally, there is Mandelieu-la-Napoule and its famous Mimosa Festival, when the entire town is decked out in yellow.
The hinterland is equally appealing, featuring Grasse, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Èze, Gourdon, Cabris, and some of the most beautiful hilltop villages many of which are built in a spiral layout. During the warmer months, each village hosts its own patron saint festival, complete with pétanque competitions and, at times, communal meals in the village square.
The Alpes-Maritimes region is a haven for fine dining, boasting restaurants that showcase local produce and an increasing number of excellent wines most notably Château de Bellet, produced in the hills above Nice.
For skiing and golf, head to the Valberg resort—situated at an altitude of 1,800 meters and accessible via the Var Valley and the Cians Gorges. It features the most magical 9-hole course ever built in a natural setting, offering a 360-degree panorama of Mercantour Park (open from late May to late October).
